ABEZA TUZAMURANE known as “Dorcas”  is a savings group that was initially made up of wives of Pastors but now female Pastors are also part of it. The group had been meeting regularly in the office of TLC in the District of Gicumbi and Sector of Byumba for a period of 1 year. On the 7th of May, the team members met to share what they had been saving.

The group is made up of 30 people among which 3 of them are refugees from the Gihembe Camp. The group was formed right after attending a workshop that lasted three days on self growth as well as savings and loans which made the participants decide to form a savings group.

These women, who typically make a living from being small scale retailers, decided to go to the second level of the savings and loans program after sharing their savings, whereby for the very first day of saving in this second level, they managed to save 125,000 RWF.

During the sharing of their savings and shifting to the second level, Therese, a TLC facilitator was present to guide them and helped them in counting what they had saved throughout the whole year.

Therefore, the women in Gicumbi are committed to saving for life and are also spreading the word by encouraging their fellow community members to save.
