Kigali, Rwanda – On March 8, 2025, George Fox School in Kagarama hosted a transformative workshop led by Dr. Mary McKenna, a dedicated trainer for teachers affiliated with “Quaker schools”. The workshop aimed to enhance the educational experience of students by emphasizing the power of reading aloud. This event was a testament to the enduring values of Quaker education, which prioritizes peace, equality, and community.

Dr. McKenna, who hails from the United States, spent the last two months in Rwanda, collaborating with local educators and sharing her expertise in innovative teaching methods. Her visit underscores the global reach of Quaker schools, Also known as Friends schools, which are rooted in the values of the Religious Society of Friends. These institutions are renowned for their commitment to fostering inclusive, compassionate, and intellectually stimulating environments for students.

The workshop at George Fox School focused on the importance of read-aloud sessions in nurturing young minds. Nine  participants, including teachers and educational staff, attended the session.
