The Transformational Leadership Center is a Rwandan nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering communities around Rwanda to transform their livelihoods. By building conflict management and leadership skills among community leaders and NGOs, we mobilize communities to work together for poverty reduction, promotion of education, and a peaceful future.
VISION
The vision of Children’s Peace Education Network of Rwanda is to see a positive transformation and sustainable peace promotion among the children of Rwanda. Our primary focus has been the development of the Children’s Peace Libraries. These have become centers for literacy and learning, and a home to our programs teaching nonviolent conflict resolution.
Since we celebrated the opening of our first Children’s Peace Library in 2009, it has become a cherished place to many of the children of the Kicukiro neighborhood in Kigali. Outside the capital, our libraries in Bigogwe and Kanzenze (Rubavu District), Byumba (Gicumbi District), and Ruhengeri (Musanze District) provide unique spaces where Rwandans have free access to children’s books.
Children participate in conflict resolution and mediation training hosted in the library. Our education approach differs dramatically from education model employed in Rwandan public schools, with emphasizes memorization and repetition. We focus on effective education: developing character and leadership by linking inner values with everyday actions in interpersonal relationships.
